Originally from Peachland, Dr Katie Markin is excited to move to her husband’s hometown to be closer to family, friends, and the beautiful West Kootenays. She is currently practicing in Castlegar, Nelson, and most recently Nakusp. She recognizes the barrier to primary eye care that the people of Nakusp and surrounding area have and is ready to fill that need by travelling to Nakusp one day per week and provide full scope primary eye care and disease management within the Nakusp Integrated Health Clinic.

Katie obtained her BSc. in medical biochemistry at UBC Okanagan and then her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo in 2018. She completed her Ocular Disease Internship at the Detroit Veterans Hospital. Since graduation, she has worked at several clinics in Vancouver, Prince Rupert, and Kelowna. She is the proud new owner of Mountain View Optometry and is excited to bring her experience to the West Kootenays and settle down here. Embracing the active Nelson lifestyle, you can often find her running and biking around the area.

Bryan is in his 50th year in the optical industry. He has 5 children and 11 grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys camping and fishing.

Lucy is a recent resident of Nelson and is enjoying the process of getting to know her new community. Lucy has worked in the customer service industry since 2015 and loves her position here at Mountain View Optometry. You will see her behind the reception desk or helping patients pick and fit their eyewear. She also travels up to Nakusp once per week with Dr. Markin. She is excited to get to know and assist you!

Kailey joined our team as an Optical Associate, and has recently moved into a new role as our Pretesting Technician. Originally from White Rock BC, she moved to Nelson in 2020, drawn by the beauty of the Kootenays and the friendly nature of our community. In her spare time she enjoys hiking with her dog, canoeing, skiing, and baking.

Travis moved back to the Kootenays in 2021 with his lovely wife after spending a couple decades in the Okanagan where he led a small team of photography enthusiasts for a popular camera store. Originally born in Castlegar, he is elated to be back in the area he called home.

A maker and explorer at heart, Travis can be found hiking around our beautiful forests. When he's not outside he's often at his workbench working on creating something new and interesting.
